A car parked on a snowy street at night beside an apartment building

Any hour. A person answers.

Locked out of your car in Winnipeg?

Call or text us with the year, make and model. We come to you any hour, open most cars without damaging the door or window, and tell you the price before we start.

You approve the price before we start. Not sure it's really us? See who's coming.

Can a locksmith unlock my car without damaging it?

Usually, yes. Most cars can be opened by a trained locksmith using purpose-built tools that work the lock or the door mechanism without breaking glass or scratching paint. Older coat-hanger tricks are what cause damage.

Text us the year, make and model

Every car opens a little differently. Tell us the year, make and model, and if you can, send a photo of the driver's door. It means we bring the right tools and can give you a firm price before we leave.

Tell us where the keys are, too: on the seat, in the trunk, in the ignition, or gone. If they're gone, that's a car key job, and we can usually cut and program a new one on site.

How we open a car without damage

We use purpose-built tools that reach the lock or the door mechanism through the door seal, without breaking glass or scratching paint. It's careful work, not force. Wedges, coat hangers and slim jims from the trunk of a stranger's car are what bend frames and tear weather stripping.

Winter notes for Winnipeg

  • Frozen lock or frozen door? A door frozen to its seal is not a lockout. Don't yank the handle in deep cold, because handles break. Never pour hot water on a lock or a door: it refreezes deeper. If the key won't turn, call us.
  • Dead fob at minus 30? Cold drains fob batteries. Most fobs hide a small metal key inside that opens the driver's door. Look for a release button on the fob.
  • Keys locked in while warming up? If the car is running, see keys locked in a running car.

If a child or a pet is locked in the car, call 911 first.

We check it's your car

Before we hand over an open car, we check your ID against the registration or insurance slip. If they're in the glovebox, we check once the door is open. It keeps us from opening cars for the wrong people, including yours.

Questions people ask

What do you need to know when I call?
The year, make and model, where the car is, and where the keys are (in the car, lost, or in the ignition). If you can, text a photo of the driver's door. That lets us bring the right tools and give you the price.
Do I need to prove the car is mine?
Yes. We check your ID against the vehicle registration or insurance slip before we hand over an open car. If those papers are inside, we check them once the door is open.
My keys are locked in and the car is running. Is that different?
It's more urgent because of fuel and fumes. If it's in a closed garage, open the garage door and stay out. Then see our page on keys locked in a running car.
I've lost my car keys completely. Can you help?
Yes. That's a car key job rather than a lockout. We can usually open the car, then cut and program a new key on the spot for most makes.
Can you open my car in a parking lot or at work?
Yes. We come to wherever the car is in Winnipeg or the Capital Region, including parkades, as long as we can reach the driver's door.
