Change locks and fit new deadbolts in Winnipeg
When a lock is worn, damaged or too weak for the door, rekeying won't fix it. We remove the old hardware, fit a new lock or deadbolt, and make sure the bolt actually reaches the strike when the door is shut.

When should I change my locks instead of rekeying them?
Change the lock when the hardware itself is the problem: a cylinder that is worn or sticking, a deadbolt that won't throw fully, damage from a forced entry, or a low-grade lock on a door that needs better. If the lock works well and you only want old keys to stop working, rekeying is enough.
When the lock itself is the problem
Rekeying changes the key. A lock change replaces the hardware. You need the second when:
- the cylinder is worn and keys have to be jiggled;
- the deadbolt doesn't fully extend, or takes force to turn;
- a forced entry has bent the bolt, cracked the housing or split the frame;
- the lock is a light builder grade on a door that needs something stronger.
If none of those apply, a rekey is likely the better buy. Our guide on whether to rekey or replace walks through the choice.
Doors that move with the seasons
Winnipeg doors work hard. Frost heave, a swing from minus 35 to plus 30, and humid summers make doors and frames shift. A deadbolt that slides in easily in July can miss its strike in January. Part of every lock change is checking that the bolt lines up and throws fully, and adjusting the strike if it doesn't. A new lock that can't lock isn't an upgrade.
After a break-in
Replace what was damaged, then look at why it gave. Often it's a short strike-plate screw or a weak frame rather than the lock. We fit the new lock, check the strike and frame, and tell you plainly if a stronger lock would help or not. For locks with restricted keys that can't be copied at a hardware store, ask us about high-security options.
Keyless instead?
If you are replacing a lock anyway, it may be the moment to go keyless. See smart lock installation.

Questions people ask
- Can you change a lock after a break-in?
- Yes. We replace damaged locks and check the strike and frame, because a forced door is often damaged around the lock, not just in it.
- My deadbolt only works in summer. Why?
- Doors and frames move with temperature and humidity. In winter the bolt can miss the strike hole. Often the fix is adjusting or moving the strike, not a new lock, and we tell you which before starting.
- Can the new lock use the same key as my other doors?
- Usually, yes. We can key the new lock to match your existing key, or rekey the rest of the house to match the new one.
- Do you supply the lock or fit mine?
- Either. If you have bought a lock already, we can fit it. If not, we bring options and explain the difference before you choose.
