Key fob programming in Winnipeg
If your key fob has stopped working, it's usually the battery, a worn button or a fob that has lost its pairing. We test it, replace or reprogram it, and pair new and spare fobs, including push-to-start keys.

Why did my key fob stop working?
The usual causes are a dying battery, a worn button or circuit, or a fob that has lost its pairing with the vehicle. A weak battery often shows up first on the coldest mornings. If a new battery doesn't fix it, the fob needs repairing, reprogramming or replacing.
Battery, button or pairing
A fob does three jobs: unlock the doors, talk to the car's immobilizer so it will start, and, on many vehicles, start the engine remotely. When one of those stops, the cause is usually simple. Try a fresh battery first. If the fob is still dead, or works only inches from the door, the circuit or the pairing has failed, and that's where we come in.
Push-to-start and proximity keys
With a push-to-start car, the fob is the key. Lose it and the car won't start at all. We program replacement and spare proximity keys at the vehicle for most makes.
Remote starters and Winnipeg mornings
Remote start isn't a luxury here. It is how people survive January, and it is also how a lot of fobs get lost, dropped in snowbanks or left inside a running car. If your keys are locked in a car that's running, that's an emergency: go to keys locked in a running car. For factory remote starters we can pair a new or spare fob. Aftermarket systems vary by brand, so tell us which one you have when you call.
Cold kills weak batteries first
A fob battery that is fine in September can give out on the first minus 25 morning. If your fob has started to need a second press, change the battery before the cold does it for you. Our guide to a key fob not working in the cold covers the hidden blade key and what to try before calling.

Questions people ask
- Should I just change the battery first?
- Yes. It is the cheapest fix and often the right one. If the fob still does nothing, or only works when you stand next to the car, call us.
- My fob is dead and I'm outside the car. What now?
- Most fobs hide a metal key. Slide the release on the fob, pull the blade out and use the door lock. Our guide on dead fobs in the cold shows where to look.
- Can you add a spare fob?
- Yes, for most makes. A second fob is worth having before winter rather than after you lose the first one.
- Can you program a remote starter fob?
- Factory remote start built into the vehicle's own fob, yes for most makes. For an aftermarket remote starter, tell us the brand when you call so we come prepared.
- Do you do push-to-start keys?
- Yes, for most makes. Text us the year, make and model and we confirm before we come out.
