Can a locksmith open a safe without destroying it?

Often, yes. Depending on the safe and the lock, it can be opened by working the combination or the keypad, or by replacing a dead battery or failed keypad, without damaging the safe. Drilling is a last resort, and a properly done drill point can be repaired so the safe is usable again.

Non-destructive first

Most safes that won't open aren't broken. The combination has been forgotten, a dial has drifted, the keypad battery has died, or the key has gone missing. We start with the methods that leave your safe intact. Drilling is the last option, and if it's needed we tell you first and explain how the safe is repaired afterwards.

Home safes and business safes

  • Home: document and fireproof safes, small digital safes, and older dial safes inherited with a house.
  • Business: office and retail safes and drop safes. When staff with the combination leave, change it.

Proof it's yours

Opening a safe means opening whatever is inside it. Before we start, we ask for ID and reasonable proof that the safe is yours. That protects you as much as anyone. See how we verify ourselves too.

After it's open

Once the safe is open we can change the combination, replace a failing mechanical or electronic lock, and show you how to change a code yourself so it doesn't happen again.

Booking

Tell us the make and model and send a photo of the dial or keypad. We tell you what we expect to do and the price before we start. If the job turns out harder, we stop and ask first: see our price promise. Safe work is part of our residential and commercial service across the city and the towns on our areas page.

Questions people ask

My digital safe won't open. Is it broken?
Often it's just the battery. Many digital safes have an external battery contact or a backup key. Check the manual first; if that doesn't work, call us.
Do I need to prove the safe is mine?
Yes. We ask for ID and reasonable proof that the safe and its contents are yours before opening it.
Can you change the combination?
Yes, for most safe locks, once the safe is open. We can also replace a worn mechanical lock with a new one.
Do you open gun safes?
Tell us the make and model when you call and we'll confirm. The same proof of ownership applies.
