Locked out of your house in Winnipeg?
Call or text us. A locksmith comes to your door any hour, asks for your ID, and opens most house and apartment doors without drilling. You hear the price before any work starts.
You approve the price before we start. Not sure it's really us? See who's coming.
How does a locksmith get into a locked house?
Most house locks can be picked or bypassed without damage by a trained locksmith with the right tools. Drilling is the last resort, used only when a lock is broken or high security, and a good locksmith tells you before doing it.
Most house lockouts open without damage
The common Winnipeg front door has a knob or lever lock plus a deadbolt. Both can usually be picked or bypassed by a trained locksmith without marking the door. We start with the gentlest method and work up.
Drilling is the last resort. It's for locks that are broken, seized, or built to resist picking. If it comes to that, we tell you before we start, explain what it changes, and you decide.
What to do while you wait
- Stay warm. In a Winnipeg winter, don't wait on the step. A neighbour's porch, your car if you have the car key, or a nearby store will do.
- Check the other doors. The back door, the door from an attached garage, a patio slider. Don't climb in a window.
- Try the building first if you rent. Many apartment blocks and condos have a caretaker or manager on call who can let you in for free.
- Find your ID, or tell us on the phone if it's locked inside. It speeds things up at the door.
If a child, a pet or anyone vulnerable is inside and can't get out, call 911 first.
We ask for ID first
Before we open a home, we ask for your ID. If your ID is inside, we open the door and check it before we pack up.
It can feel slow when you're cold. It's also the reason we won't open your house for anyone else. See exactly what we ask for.
Lost keys, not just locked out?
If your keys are gone rather than locked inside, think about who might find them. A key ring with an address tag, or keys lost near home, is a reason to rekey your locks so the old key stops working. We can usually do it on the same visit, with the price agreed first.
Price first, then the door
You hear the price on the phone, before anyone drives to you. At the door, we confirm it before we start. If something changes, like a seized lock, we stop and ask. Our Price Promise.
Questions people ask
- What ID do I need to show?
- Your ID, such as a driver's licence or a Manitoba ID card. If your ID is inside, we check it once the door is open, before we leave.
- Do you open apartment and condo doors?
- Yes. Many Winnipeg apartment and condo buildings have a building manager or caretaker who can let tenants in, so try them first. If they can't, we can open your unit door. We ask for your ID, the same as for a house.
- Will my lock still work afterwards?
- In most lockouts, yes. The lock is opened, not broken, and works as before. If a lock was already failing or had to be drilled, we tell you and offer a replacement, which is your choice.
- I lost my keys. Should I change the locks?
- If the keys could be found with your address on them, yes, or rekey them. Rekeying changes the inside of the lock so the lost key stops working, and we can usually do it on the same visit.
- Can I text you a photo instead of calling?
- Yes. Text a photo of the lock and your address. It helps us bring the right tools and give you the price faster.
