Who's coming to your door, and how to check
Before we arrive, we tell you the name of the locksmith who's coming and a door word they'll say when they get there. If the person at your door can't say it, don't open the door. Call us.
You approve the price before we start. Not sure it's really us? See who's coming.
How do I know the locksmith at my door is real?
A real locksmith company tells you who is coming before they arrive. With us you get the locksmith's name and a door word they say at the door, and they show photo ID. If the person can't say the word or show ID, don't open the door. Call the company on the number you found yourself.
Three checks before you open the door
- The name. We tell you who's coming when you book.
- The door word. We give you a word when you book. Our locksmith says it at the door.
- Photo ID. Our locksmith shows it without being asked.
If any of the three doesn't match, keep the door shut and call us on the number from this website. A real locksmith will wait while you check. A fake one won't want you to.
What we check about you
Before we open a home, a car or a business, we ask for ID:
- A home: your ID.
- A car: ID that matches the registration or insurance slip.
- A business: ID plus a lease, business licence, business card, or the owner confirming by phone.
If your ID is locked inside, we check it once the door is open, before we leave. Being asked is a good sign. Why we ask, and what we never do.
Why this matters in Winnipeg
Search for a locksmith here and some of the results aren't local businesses at all. They're call centres that sell your job to whoever is nearby, that never say where they're based, ratings you can't trace, and sometimes map pins that point to another country. You can't check who they're sending, because they don't know either.

Does Manitoba license locksmiths?
We could not find any Manitoba or City of Winnipeg licence for locksmiths. The provincial security licensing program covers private investigators and security guards, locksmithing is not a compulsory certification trade, and Winnipeg's business licence list does not include it.

How to spot a fake locksmith
A fake locksmith usually won't say where it's based, uses a vague company name, gives a phone quote that's too good to be true, and wants to drill. Ask where they're based and who's coming, then check the name matches the invoice and the vehicle, and you'll avoid most of them.

Questions people ask
- What is the door word?
- A word we give you when you book. Our locksmith says it when they arrive. Anyone who can't say it isn't from us, so don't open the door, and call us.
- Why do you ask me for ID?
- Because a locksmith who opens a door for anyone will open yours for a stranger. We ask for your ID before we open a home, and ID that matches the registration before we open a car.
- Will your locksmith be in a marked vehicle?
- We tell you what our locksmith is driving when we tell you who's coming. An unmarked car with no company name is one of the warning signs of a fake locksmith.
- Can I call to check a locksmith is from you?
- Yes. Call the number on this website, not a number the person at your door gives you, and ask us to confirm who we sent.
